Pauline those canterbury Bells look so drlicate and yet rhey are hardy and bloom e very year. Your trolley must have zan invisible compartment as I truly marvel at how much you manage to pack in it. jEAN nice for you to see your granddaughter and chat N when she brought your groceries
Dian, it will be great fir you to have a day out in your daughters garden,
My front door lock was not working , key would not open from outside, so. i called a locksmith and he came and out and replaced the lock. So that was my eventful day. But I noticed the young mans surname seemed French and he told me that he had traced back to the 1600 his ancestors and then present day kin in America and NZ.

Hi Ladies. I think I took that photo about 10 years ago of the lovely blooms on my Sun King tree, but from today that has to be a memory because I will saw it down bit by bit and fingers crossed that I do get to a section where the sap is still rising, but don't think that will be the case.
I see we have started a new page again, so had better open page 5 in another tab to see if there are any of your posts I am missing answering. Just checked and I had answered you all. I spoke to Gennie last evening and we had a good old nag putting the world to rights .
Decision made, because the cat was hiding again in the end bed and there were fresh pigeon feathers on the grass this morning, that I will move the bird feeding station to where the Sun King is being removed where there aren't so many hiding places for that cat and try and stop the murders going on in the garden, then decide where the new creation will go,That Blessings rose has about 30 blooms and buds on it and is doing so well, unlike the Peace roses that are slow blooming this year, except for that one early bloom in April.
Rita yes those Caterbury Bells are such lovely delicate looking plants, but very hardy. When I was young my Grandfather used to have some that were called cup and saucer flowers which had those bells in the centre, but flatter lower petals that surrounded the centre bloom - these are the ones I am talking about:-
and would love to get some of them and have just checked on the internet and see that the seeds can be bought now for sowing under cover until July and then transplant ready for winter and flowering next year, but they are a biennial like wallflowers and do I really want all of that work? You talking about my trolley, someone did mention, when I was packing away from a sale at one of the clubs, that the trolley was like a magician's cabinet and where did everything disappear to - just got used to knowing what I can fit into it and the best way to do it. That was a nuisance for you Rita, having to get a locksmith to change the lock for you on the front door - bit costly too I would think, but sensible of you to get it done straight away. Interesting information from the man who did the repair about his family heritage.
I know I have still been going out during this pandemic and I have been aware of my age and what I should and shouldn't do, but I have been careful all of the time and followed the guidelines and even getting in yesterday scrubbed my hands before I made a drink and then when I unpacked the shopping and put it away after that again did the hand washing and wiped down the trolley with disinfectant and the door handles (on front door, etc.,) and just been reading that Northampton and Kettering hospitals still have high figures for the virus and yesterday Northampton General released figures that in the last 4 days to yesterday there had been a 1% increase in the deaths for them - so it isn't going down yet in this area.
Expect you will be posting later Jean after your early walk with Coco and hope that Dian enjoys her day at her daughter's and that your day goes without any problems Rita, like you had yesterday.
Coffee first and then to the garden.

nothing new here. I just feel so very tired, hard to keep awake, walked the few yards to the end of the street and back, a few cars passed by. Its warm sun but cool strong breeze.
My Roses are large this year, the red ones big as tea plates and the white ones big as saucers. There are some out at the back of house but other shrubs have taken over and I just let it grow now as I cannot risk falling and only me to see them anyway.

Hi Everyone.
Yesterday I cut down the Sun King tree bit by bit and getting to the lower part I dug up the root - it was dead all the way through and the main root had rotted away, so no saving that. Ever since that beast from the east a couple of years ago it has struggled and I do believe that is what killed it off. Then got down the bird feeding station and tidied that up and sunk it into the area where the tree had been and supported it with two sturdy posts either side, because the weight of those pigeons landing on it usually makes it lean sideways. Filled up all of the feeders and hung them back on it and found an old tray to put more food on at ground level, because where it had been before, the grass got badly affected, particularly from those fat balls. After that I moved the bird bath further up the garden and of course moving those two items, left two round bare sunken holes in the lawn so filled both of those up with earth. It was quite funny when I took the feeding station down - sparrows and blackbirds were making quite a commotion, as though to say our food is disappearing, anyway this morning they are all happily using it and although the cat was lurking in the end bed, at least he has further to run to catch anything, so satisfied with that work. Also transplanted some of the iris into one of my larger planters, because none of them are going to bloom this year, because they haven't had enough sunlight where they have been. Today I really must tackle that end bed because it really is like a jungle and needs attention and I have put it off long enough.
Jean, yes both Northampton General and Kettering hospitals have a high number of virus cases still and apparently the East Midlands area is slower coming down than other areas, but funnily enough when Maria went to 3 Shires for the chemo she was directed back to the General and the next appointment is for the 3 Shires, but she has been told that she might get a phone call prior to that to let her know if it will be back at the General again. I know you are itching to get back to the shops again, but with the figures still high in this area, each time I go out (which isn't that often) I am still observing all of the rules and being careful. Hope you and David are feeling better today as you were both a bit groggy yesterday and see that neighbours are having bonfires again and entertaining you with their t v, but hope you can sit out there today without the nuisance.
Rita I see that your roses are doing well this year and yesterday I did fit in nipping off the heads that were finished on my Blessings Rose, but plenty more blooms and buds on it. Although you felt tired yesterday I see you managed to do a short walk for exercise and you said there was a cool breeze your way - here it was still and very hot. Hopefully Peter might be able to see to the shrubs at the back for you, so you can see the roses out there.
Dian nice to hear you enjoyed the day and your other daughter joined you all yesterday - made a lovely change for you being somewhere else for a while and being looked after, but see you still had to water the plants when you got home and that is what I finished up doing when I finally came in about 8.30.
After having a bath and getting rid of all of the garden dirt I caught up with some recorded t v while eating a quick ready meal (later than usual for me) and after that I sorted through all of the bangles I had brought home and put a few better larger ones to one side ready for selling and got all of the cheaper tiny ones sorted into their different colours, ready to decorate that structure I bought.
Hope all of you can enjoy your Sunday.

Well a relaxing of the rules of meeting others, but of course there will always be those folk who go too far. For myself I have been feeling rather 'down' today, just cannot seem to get going to do anything. I thought my son would have come round, but he messaged me last night to see if I am ok - probably thought no need to come round here as said all thats necessary. We are fortunate here to be in pleasant places with , for us older people, none of the worry of copeing with energetic youngsters and little children,
Pauline, how is your Back these days, all that shifting stuff around your garden could strain it. Be careful, but I bet you feel a satisfaction that you have sorted and changed so much. I think to that with this long spell of sunshine and our frequent watering our plants have flourished, but I wonder about the farmers - whatever the weather they always complain, but the crops must be needing water. I used to walk up thro the fields but don't go away from houses now in case I fall.
I hope you have all been in the sunshine today. I sat out for a few minutes, pulled a few dead heads off the roses, then should have cut them off but didn!t.
I will go and water front garden, i just leave the little bit at back to fend for itself.
Take care all.

Hi Ladies. I am up far too early and after doing a couple of things on the computer I am actually going back to bed again to get another couple of hours sleep I hope. Yesterday started working at the top of the garden, cutting back shrubs and weeding and worked my way down one side doing the same and then got to the end bed. Removed the planters from there and did some more weeding and then started tidying up the Forsythia and a couple of other shrubs and have loads of cuttings, cut down to small size ready for the lawn mower to deal with them and also some nice long sticks drying (the Forsythia gives me quite a good few of them). Today will continue with that end bed and need to stake and tie back the large orange coloured Euphorbias and when that is finished work my way up the other side of the garden to the patio and Honeysuckle needs tying back and Ivy at patio end needs clipping again. So plenty to do again and the birds seem to have approved of the siting of their food.
Jean, yes the sun did disappear for a while and although it came back, there was quite a chilly breeze late afternoon and onwards, so came in a bit earlier than the previous evenings and see you put on some warmer trousers. Glad to read that both of you were better yesterday, but Coco had an upset tummy from the worming pills and hope that is now over for her. Well if you do get to the supermarket I can only say that the ones I have been dealing with are very well organised and not a long wait to get in or get to the checkouts when you have finished. I know you would enjoy getting your own shopping when you can. Well with regard to daughters, I do have one as you know, but it would be nice if she was as caring as Dian's family, but I am thankful that Stephen and Rachel are so thoughtful and you have a good relationship with your granddaughter.
Dian that was a lovely cooling gif of the waterfall. See you managed to sit out in your garden yesterday, but had that strong breeze blowing. I see the forecast is for it to cool off again by Wednesday, but still no rain forecast - would be nice if there was a downpour at nights to save us the job of watering. See you were planning to do some housework yesterday and I really should tidy up downstairs again.
Rita you are right about some people going too far and I saw that on the news yesterday about Bournemouth - you would hardly call that social distancing and am wondering if the virus figures will start to rise again. See you were feeling down yesterday, but to be expected now and again with the times we are living in and shame your son didn't visit you, because that would have perked you up a bit. As you have said though, we must appreciate that although we live alone, we don't have the worry of possibly losing jobs or keeping children at home and entertained, particularly if you are one of those families stuck in cramped accommodation or high rise flats, without gardens to get out in. Thanks for asking about my back Rita - since I had that really bad spell with it a few years back, I am very careful how I bend and what I lift and never reach too far sideways when bending, but get upright again and move further along before bending again - slows things down, but I never want to be in that pain again. As you say, with the sun and the watering we have given the gardens, our plants are flourishing (lawn is drying out though, but that will recover), but can understand the farmers being so worried with no rain and also a lack of people to pick the produce. That reminds me, I must get some lettuce sown today.
Well it is just coming up to 6.45, so I am going to make some toast and a drink and go back to bed to catch up with some recorded t v and then try and grab a couple of more hours sleep. Hope all of you have a good start to the week.

Pauline I put that plant out yesterday and so far it looks ok, time will tell.
this morning we went round the Cambridgeshire villages, which was nice. and the weather was lovely. However as we set out David got a message from my exgranddaughter
saying she could not do the shopping anymore because Oklent is now looking after his nieces as well. apparently then they do not eat. this is because I told her I could
here her partner shouting last week....not to worry, shall have to go to the shops now and amend my will asap.
glad you are feeling cheerful Rita and hope your son in law is better. had a text from friend in Canada showing me her dead trees.
it looks as if next door is off work, so shall have to get the earplugs out, nothing happening yet on the other side, the windows are all open
Dian good you had such a nice day

Dian it is going to be a nice day here. might sit in the front garden if too noisy in the back!!!
#the computer on Davids car told him he needed to change the oil sohe took it to the garage and they put it right in ten seconds. why they fit the car with these things
is beyond me. I soon know if I have a flat tyre...my car is even worse with all these computer gadgets which I do not want but you cannot buy a car without them
now, only if you get an old one like my corsa 22 years old
I might venture up the shop today as we are running out of bread as grandson forgot it. will not bother him.
Rita I hope you feel better today, I think you do very well
Pauline the plant looks ok at the moment

Yesterday in the garden again and cutting back and working on that end bed and where I had stored two lots of grass and other cuttings for making compost (when I got round to seeing about a composter) I found that all of this was well rotted in two large plastic bags (which I had received potting fibre in previously) and dug both lots into half of the bed that I had cleared. Cut the lawn on one side and got rid of another load of cuttings in the mowing, so now there are another two bags put by for rotting. I took these photos as the light was going - two views of the new site for the bird feeding station and bird bath (which is being used well), part of the end bed cleared and worked on and the clemaits which seemed to be dying from the root up is still blooming and such a lovely colour that I hope I don't lose it. The other one where I said there were no buds, must be later blooming, because the buds are appearing now, so happy about that:-
Jean I am sure that plant will be fine and should look good next year in the garden. Whoops it appears you have upset your granddaughter, but these things happen and hope it blows over. Glad you managed to get out yesterday and have a tour around the Cambridgeshire villages - made a nice break for you and hope your trip to the shops goes okay today - I am sure you will find in quite easy. Nuisance about the two cars with all of the computerised gadgets which most people I am sure can do without.
Dian yes I did manage to get a bit more sleep and felt better for it, but made a late start for me in the garden, but enjoyed what I got through and I am always careful about my back these days. It does make you wonder about whether the virus figures will rise again, what with some of the photos that have appeared on the internet - you could hardly call that safe distancing with some of the scenes on the beaches. There is one thing though that I found nice - standing out in the garden with a coffee I could hear the children playing mid morning in the school which is the other side of the main road from me and hope all of that goes okay for them. Another scorching day for you and you sat out in the garden for a while and your friend brought down your tri-wheeler, which hopefully your daughter will be able to fix up without much trouble. You certainly were busy yesterday getting through all of that housework, washing and ironing and reckon you deserve a rest today.
Rita I do hope the week has got better for you and you have brightened up.
Just been listening to the news and it is so awful in America and all I feel is that Trump needs to be got rid of - he just adds fuel to the fire - such an awful man that puts his own self interest above the people of his nation. Going to finish my coffee and turn off the news and get out in that garden again. Hope you all enjoy your day.

Hi Ladies.
Considering I have been out in the garden for many hours over the last few weeks I haven't yet been bitten, but yesterday ended up with a mosquito bite at the side of my eyebrow, but luckily it has gone down this morning and then this morning started off badly - before I had my first coffee I had to catch one of the larger spiders lurking in the porch - got him in a glass and shot him out under the back gate and then made a coffee.
Yesterday worked on that end bed again and actually got two large plants out of their planters and into that end bed - one was a medium sized conifer that was so root bound I don't know how it had survived for years and the other one was a cornus dogwood with the stems that turn orange in the autumn and winter and that had been in its planter for about 2 and a half years. Both of them seem to have settled in well having given them loads of water and looked happy this morning when I checked them. Having got that end bed to satisfaction I then placed out a lot of the planters and just got one end to finish and decide what planters to put there. Here are the photos I took last evening:-
If you compare them with the ones I took the night before, you can see how it is filling up and the first one shows the conifer and the second one shows the cornus and the space still to be filled with a couple of planters - no more hiding places for the cat :-
In that second photo you can also see a sedum which I dug up to make room for the cornus and brought forward and it wilted a bit last evening, but is fine this morning.
The gif I used this morning is of the Peace Rose that finally opened yesterday and took these two photos of the Blessings rose to show how many blooms there are on each stem:-
Seeing as there is heavy rain threatened for today I had better get out there and see what needs doing urgently and it also looks the same kind of weather here and there through to the weekend. Actually will be quite happy to be indoors again and getting on with the housework.
Dian beyond me too how Trump ever got elected and just hope he doesn't win the next election - he has caused so much grief in his country. See you got annoyed with yourself yesterday for getting so little done while working in the back garden, but you had such a busy filled up day on Monday, not surprised you needed to slow down yesterday. Still nothing about hairdressers opening yet and know you are getting fed up with your hair.
Hope your shopping trip went well yesterday Jean and looking forward to hearing about it and also how you are doing Rita.
Must away now and get out there before that rain arrives and hope all of you have a day free of problems.
P.S well that has sorted the day out - rain has arrived already.

I had some bother to get in here again, log in etc..i am well though get tired easily, i think its boredom not getting out. Today i made a victoria sandwich cake in my. Combination micro oven, it is nice, the cake I mean, half gone already. No slimming fir me. I also cooked mincemeat carrots onions, made dumplings, cabbage, enough mince left for a meal tomorrow. Then of course all the washing up to do, I ask you, is all the bother worth it when I could buy a ready meal to heat up in the microwave and no washing of pans etc after it. But, then it did taste nice and kept me busy. So quiet all day. I phoned Muriel, she and her husband had been town, to one shop then sat and watched folk go by. I get delivery from local village small supermarket, not great variety, but better than having to get a bus into town.
Pauline, do you know just how many different plants you have in your garden, a great variety there. Takes some watering every night, but you will get a break now.
Jean, you have had your food shopping done for you but I bet you would prefer to go out and get your own, its difficult to tell others what one wants.
Dian, do be careful, if you do too much at once you may set yourself back . I see you had d-in law and gr/daughter in fir a chat, so cheering
Its wild and. Windy tonight with a little rain.

it is cold here today hope I will not have to put the heating back on.....wearing track suit bottoms and thick jumper
it did not cheer me up when I read that Kettering and Northampton hospitals, each ten miles from us in opposite direction had the highest rate of the bug in the country
said to myself cannot believe all you read in papers.
the post has actually come had to check the time usually much later than this.
Coco is sitting in a nest she has made, still ready to go out, just hope it will get warmer or I will have to put her coat on.
Dian lovely to go to Marks and Spensers do not know if they clothes store is open
Rita hope you are ok today and keep warm in the cold.

Hello Everyone.
Yesterday just got on with things indoors as it rained all day, but garden is looking better for it, except for the wind that has blown the seed pods and some of the leaves from the looming tree, all over it. Today is quite grey out there, but dry and might be able to get on with some of the jobs still waiting outside. I got on with indoor jobs and went through a lot more of those photos that Stephen and Rachel brought down. I have now shredded a lot of those that were just photos of neighbours and friends that Stephen's Nan knew, which would mean nothing to him. I knew some of them, but only slightly and have kept the ones where his Nan and Grandad are in the photos. Quite a few old ones turning up of his Dad when he was in the army and of course, keeping them. I have now cleared 1 large raffia box, 1 biscuit tin and 4 albums. Still a lot more albums and negatives to sort through, but have starting making headway. Also tackled the large pile of filing and shredded quite a lot of old bills and statements - particularly old o2 communications, so files thinner and easier to get back in cupboard, so that started part of the clearance and I can dust and vacuum and get downstairs back to rights - keeps getting so dark outside, that I think that might be a job for today to continue with.
Caught up with Stephen and Rachel on the phone and he had spent the day before working out routes and was off to the warehouse to get the vans loaded for today and Rachel was still getting on with a lot of things indoors although they both confirmed they are fairly straight with regard to furniture in the correct places and in the right rooms. Ralph is coming back from his Dad's for a couple of nights, so she was busy fitting up his t v for him - still got to be careful with him because he has been isolating at his Dad's as he is diabetic, but so far all seems okay for him. Tilly the newest cat had never been allowed outside because she was young and they knew they would be moving, so is still indoors and Rachel checked with the vet and she advised that Ozzie too should be kept indoors for at least 3 weeks until he gets used to the house, because he could go wandering off back to their original house if he was let out too soon. Max the dog is happy with his walks, because where the house is, is where they used to walk him a lot. Start of July they have booked for the pavers to be laid in the garden, so might go up there after that, wearing the mask in the car when Rachel picks me up and keeping at a social distance in the house - see how things go. She told me that Debenhams on one of the large retail parks in Rugby (and probably the last new store they opened) wouldn't be opening after lock down has been lifted. They had just finished letting out all of the smaller retail units in that store and were having discussions with the landlords about lowering the rent and landlords wouldn't budge, so staff were told suddenly this week they had no jobs to go back to. Fortunately for us here in Northampton, they have confirmed to their staff that our town store will open again.
Jean, seeing as it looks like a big rift with your granddaughter, will your son still be able to bring Oscar with him when he visits, so you can keep close to your gt. grandson? Any good news from your sister-i-l when she phoned and had a catch up with you? That rain certainly was welcome and saved the job of watering - not sure about the weather today because we are still supposed to get more rain and sun is out again at the moment, but came over very dark just now. We appear to have new neighbours next door and a while ago an Indian lady I know from the clubs, told me I had new Indian neighbours, but they hadn't appeared until yesterday and there have been workmen in the house - yesterday there seemed to be some hammering going on and he was putting some old broken up wood from the inside, into the garden and then washing the patio down and this morning he has been out there strimming the tall grass front and back. Would be nice if I got some friendly decent neighbours - something that I never really have had since I bought the house some 24 years ago. Let's hope you get the same when the bungalow next to you is sold. With regard to what is going on in the States, I read this morning that George Floyd had coronavirus - autopsy revealed this besides confirming that he died of asphyxiation - ironic if police officers involved in killing him had contracted it and as for Trump, agree with you. It got very cold here last evening and I had a body warmer on and felt very tempted to put the heating back on again, but resisted that urge and must say that temperature seems to have risen a bit at the moment, but see you put warmer clothes on today. Definitely not the news we wanted to hear about the virus figures still being high in Northants and highest daily rise revealed at the General last Friday. Hope Coco got her walk with you today.
Dian, I was so grateful for that rain after that transplanting I did of larger plants and they look the better for it too. That seems to be the case too what I think about what Jean said - no holidays until there is a vaccine and see you feel the same way too. We all miss our holidays, but better to be safe than sorry. See yesterday was chilly for you and your back very sore - you definitely did far too much the other day and now suffering for it. Good that your d-in-l and granddaughter popped in and you enjoyed their company and they got the tri-wheeler sorted for you. Bet that did bring back memories seeing Carmen which you hadn't watched since you were 15. I had my memory jogged today on the Catford and Lewisham group on Facebook - one new member spoke about the first school she went to and it jogged my memory about the name of it (which was Royston House and where I first went) set back from the road opp Lewisham Hospital and she spoke about how sad she felt seeing her mother walk away and leave her there - upsetting that one for most children on their first day at school and can't say I enjoyed those memories. See you washed and set your hair last night and do hope you enjoy the trip today with your daughter out to M & S.
Rita I had to log back in again yesterday and today - I reckon that is caused when the owners of Forumotion are updating their site. You are getting on so well with that microwave/combination oven of yours - so very hard to diet with this lock down and all of the cooking from scratch we are doing at the moment and that Victoria Sponge sounded delicious. I know that the ready meals are much more convenient, but our own cooked from scratch are far more tasty and healthy for us. See that you spoke to Muriel on the phone and she and her husband had been into town to visit one shop and then sit on a bench and watch folks pass by - made a break for them from the building work going on next door to them and hope things have quietened down a bit for you from the building going on next to you. I couldn't even start to count the different plants now in my garden and I was very grateful for the break from watering last evening - see on the news they reckon that Northants has been the driest county in the country and I can believe that. It definitely was a bit wild and windy last night going by all of the seed pods and leaves over my lawn and the rain has just started to drizzle again here.
Well with that rain starting again here it is back to indoor work for me and hope you enjoy the evening ladies.

yesterday I had a scam call,. saying that Amazon will take £79,99 out of my account and if I did not want this press 1 to speak to a manager. I rang
the bank instead and they added it to their list of scams.
then of course David had the virus scam asking him to do a trail............
Pauline shall not see Oscar, Paul never sees him unless they want something. never sees his other children either, one now 23 does not leave the house
at all, and his son, contacts now and again. this is not his fault. Paul gets upset about it all so shall keep quite.
We moved many times with our cat, as soon as she saw the boxes for packing she did not go far away. And once we obviously had not shut the door
properly and when we came back from wherever it was the cat and dog were sitting on the front porch!!!!
hope they sort out Maddie , that mans sounds terrible and should never be let out.

Hi Ladies. My goodness it certainly poured last night and definitely doing the plants good (particularly those I transplanted), but not doing much for making it look tidy out there. Dodgy weather again today, sun on and off, but loads of clouds around and more rain forecast, so I am getting on with indoor work.
Yesterday I vacuumed and dusted all of the dining room and kitchen end and going to do the lounge this morning and the remainder of downstairs and then get Henry back upstairs again for a bit of work up there. So I can do a bit more work on the photos I opened up the second picnic table (one already up) to sort them out on, which has cleared the dining room table. Cuts down on the floor space in the kitchen area, but helps to keep things tidier and the large bag containing the remainder of the albums is under those tables.
I don't know about any of you, but I was feeling so cold yesterday and again this morning and nearly switched the heating back on again, but put on the body warmer instead and need to crack on with the housework to warm up, but will give Maria and Gennie a call first.
I see that from Monday 15th June, we all have to wear our face masks when using public transport, so pleased I have mine and see that doctors want the use of them extended.
Wishing all of you a good day and stay warm .
