Hello Everyone - Page 12 Empty Re: Hello Everyone

Sat Jul 11, 2020 11:48 am
when I went out this morning with Coco got covered in thunder flies. was wearing a yellow cardigan which they like

yesterday after looking up lamb shanks on their website. Sainsburys told me they did not have any, so after tescos, went up there to get a white belt(and yes they did not have any) and got the lamb .....shanks at last.

Morrisons still direct you to which till they want you go to and I have to go back there to get some beef dripping as nobody else seems to sell it.

we are having a barbie tonight as David said it would be nice weather.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 Oie_fr13  Hi Ladies.

I certainly made the most of yesterday in the garden - trimmed the shrubs in the end border, weeded the whole bed and tidied the planters and then went quickly through one of the side beds tidying and weeding and did a lot of dead heading.  After that got out the strimmer and did the edges, followed that with mowing the grass (got to say that Stephen's flymo isn't quite as easy to use as my old bosch, but did the job).  Swept up fallen seed pods and others leaves still on the grass and then finished up by cutting down a lot of the plant stems (delphs, etc.,) that I had cut back and chopped them into smaller pieces and then finished up with two large bags of grass and plant cuttings for compost and today going to get the compost bin outside and start using that.  Must say that nextdoor in the afternoon they had a bbq with loud music and being Romanian it was like living with the Eurovision song contest Rolling Eyes, but thankfully it didn't go on too late.

This morning, despite taking a couple of pain killers, I am still aching a bit, but last night ankles and shoulders were really suffering, besides the fact I had collided with a rose and scratched my knee and then had another arguement with a rose and that got my arm, but feeling better now I have started going - seen to the emails and cooked scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast and after this I have first got to do the washing up that is in hot water at the moment - yesterday's dishes, plates and breakfast things from this morning.  Last evening after the song contest had been stopped I sat outside with a vermouth and lemonade and admired the work that had been done, but still a lot more to do today, so will make the most of the good weather and after washing up will get out there again.

Jean, yellow is fatal for attracting the small flies.  Years ago when the children were young I always got a picnic ready for the beach or anywhere else we were going out to and the picnic/cool box had a yellow lid and used to get covered with the thunder flies, particularly on the beach.  I see you finally got your lamb shanks.  I always cook my roast potatoes in beef dripping and Tescos no longer stock this, but found mine in Sainsburys and as it had a long date on it, I stocked up with it last time I went there, because they were still selling the Britannia dripping.  David was right, it was lovely weather (much too hot in fact during part of the day), so hope you enjoyed your bbq.

Hope Dian and family are enjoying time at the caravan and your weekend is going well Rita.

Well must get the washing up done now and then to the garden for another long day's work.  Enjoy your day ladies.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 2xlvio10  Hi Everyone.  I worked in the garden all day and have started the boring bit.  Sieving through the potting fibre that had been used for the lilies and making sure no lily beetle lavae is in that lot - one hard job because there are 6 large planters to go through and when I have done that lot, that fibre will start off the compost bin.  Will put all of the bulbs into fresh fibre and seeing as they didn't do that well this year, should be able to get them in fewer containers and then cover them up with mulch and put them away for next year.  Hands are really aching because of all of the gripping of the sieve, as the potting fibre was still so damp after that rain last week, but got to be done and will carry on with that boring job today. Also yesterday I burned a bit more of some of the old wood in the bbq. That gif is of my clematis, the one I thought wasn't going to flower and here are a few others photos:-

Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130178Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130179Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130219Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130180Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130220Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130221Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130222and here is one of the bbq burning gently Hello Everyone - Page 12 P1130223 so not creating a nuisance.

Jean, not a good way the day before finding the wine was off when you had the bbq and then finding glass the day after in the coleslaw and cheese sandwich when you went to Kaz's with Paul and Lorraine there.  Good job you found that.  See you went although you had stomach ache and still got that, but hope you get over that soon and try having a rest for the next couple of days before you go out again.

Dian, that break to the caravan sounded lovely with the fish tea on Friday at Anstruther and a stroll around the camp in the evening.  See the visit to Combo gardens on Saturday resulted in you buying more plants  Smile and tea and sponge before heading back to the caravan where you had visitors and homemade scones with the strawberries and cream, plus a couple of gins (sounds good to me) and then finishing off the day with steak pie - bet no weight loss this weekend.  See you enjoyed a trip down to the shore where there was a lot of activity and shops open before the drive home on Sunday. Duke waiting for you I see and today catching up on his sleep upstairs and there was only watering of some of the plants to do and the rain has arrived today - well you at least got the good weather for the weekend and now you are off to do some housework today - don't overdo it after that lovely break.

Rita, hope you enjoyed your weekend with the good weather.

Today it is grey out there at the moment, although it has been a sunny morning, so had better get a move on and do some more sieving quickly just in case we do get rain today, because I don't want that lot getting more waterlogged and even harder to deal with.

Enjoy the day ladies and hope the week starts off well for you.

hello did you have a good weekend?   I had no energy at all on Friday, dozed most of the day but Saturday I felt
fine. So  I painted  the few boards that my son had put on the shed when he repaired it and tidied rhe garden a bit, Sunday put another two coats  paint on (its a watery  like seal for wood)  then today cleared a lot of ivy that was growing up and strangling a Buddlea  tree, cleared all that up just in time when the rain started. Tired out but I was pleased with myself.  Just got my now dried washing in off the line in time before it got wet..
Did you Pauline and Jean go to the shops. Hope the weather was ok at your part of the country, likewise Dian.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 Empty Re: Hello Everyone

Tue Jul 14, 2020 10:09 am
Hello Everyone - Page 12 Hi_n_l11  Hi Ladies, so annoying this morning because I started to reply over an hour ago, but everything seemed to freeze on my pc, so left it all for a while and just got back to check and all of the other tabs opened, but my reply page is still blank, so starting it again.

I know that gif was one of the photos I put on here yeterday, but I was going to put some further words on it, but decided there were too many, so here is what my original thought was:-

You will all probably have heard of the saying "All my own work by Grimes", well I looked that up and found out it referred to a series of comic cartoons that were produced in WW2 and what I would have put on the photo was "All by own work by Grimey, produced in lockdown in 2020 during the war against the coronavirus".   Grimey I certainly was  after sieving damp potting fibre and soil yesterday.   Now I don't know whether that is a positive thought, but we have to see the funny side of things to keep us all going.

When it  started to rain in the  afternoon I was quite thankful to give up on that work, so coverd up the planters still needing turning out, because I didn't want that work to get any heavier with more rain, but at least it did the garden some good again and the planters I had just put the new plants in and some of the petunia seedlings, which are now showing flower buds.  Came in and had a much needed bath and into my pyjamas early, then put all  gardening clothes from the weekend and yesterday, into the washing machine and by then the chicken pie I had in the oven was ready and quickly did some frozen mash and veg to have with that.  Enjoyed that meal while I was catching up on recorded t v, while other programmes were recording and then caught up with them too, so a restful evening for me.

As 3 lots of gardening clothes are now drying it is a good job there are some more old clothes in the drawer that are good for gardening in, because it looks as though I might just get some more work done out there before any rain arrives (forecast for light rain possibly today), but can always paint and brighten up a few more garden ornaments if I have to come in.

Rita your post certainly did appear and see you got through a lot of garden work over the weekend, in the good weather.  Wish I can get down to wood staining soon and see you gave the new parts on the shed two coats.  I hate having to fight with ivy and see that is another job you tackled.  Several years back I completely got rid of the ivy on my end fence - took some time and it did keep trying to grow again, but it completely disappeared eventually. I think we do feel pleased with ourselves when we have managed to complete some gardening jobs - great sense of satisfaction from that and bet you did feel tired after doing that lot.  I haven't been to the shops since Friday before last when I collecterd my prescription, but think my groceries will last out and plan to go on Friday because by then the bread and fresh milk will have finished and I will need quite a bit of shopping by then.  I see we will all have to wear face masks in shops as from Friday 24th and although I can see the sense of this (and I do wear mine on the buses) until now I have taken it off in the shops and just stayed away from other people, because wearing them, you do start to feel the heat and a bit claustrophobic.

It is bright outside at the moment, so after a late breakfast I will go out to the garden again and hope you all enjoy the day (hopefully without rain).  Here are the photos of some new planters completed yesterday:-

A different grass in the shorter planter, from the ones I already have and the metal planter, was one I brought home from Stephen and Rachel's and repaired that - that is another type of foxglove which is supposed to have really pinky/orange luminous colour, so we will see when that blooms.  The oval planter was one of those I bought in B & M in Rugby (Rachel had two of those for their garden) and moved a fuschia into that with one of the new yellow daisies and the other square planter has another one of the daisies in, plus some of the petuania seedlings which have at last started showing flower heads.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 Empty Re: Hello Everyone

Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:58 am
Hello Everyone - Page 12 Odykjl10  Got so bored yesterday doing the same job sieving through all of that compost, but kept using it up as quickly as I was getting through it by potting on a lot more of the seedlings for next year - plenty of Foxgloves and Sweet Williams and then had a break and cutback more wallflowers and collected the seeds from them.  Also put a lot more of the smaller petunias in pots, which will only take about another week to grow and then can be put in planters and baskets where needed.  The weather is so grey today and looked at the weather forecast and cannot see any sun on those pages, so looks like a boring job on a grey day today. Honestly I have 4 large containers still to get through, plus two long ones and two others that still have lily bulbs in them and there is still a pile of potting fibre that was turned out earlier in the year, to get through.  Looking at it isn't going to get it done, so will crack on after this posting.

Jean I just checked it out on Sainsburys website and they still stock Britannia Beef Dripping for 70p.  Well at least you have got the preliminary reply from Tescos, saying it was tough plastic, but you certainly didn't need to swallow that.  I remember once complaining about the flimsy state of their ready meal containers - opened one to find it broken and they wouldn't confirm that they were less quality than they had been - had to push for it, but finally got compensation from them.  I reckon you or David should speak to the workmen in nextdoor and see if they have any plans in place to remove the ivy and tell them it is becoming a nuisance.  See you got the bedding washed, but didn't think there would be much chance to get that dry and same here, all of the gardening clothes I washed, I had hanging on the airer indoors.  Also found out that one side where the leg was attached to the top frame, had come adrift, so have that to repair when washing dry and off of it.  Another job to add to the list  Mad.  I see you hadn't planned on going out today, but not that good a day to go out in with no sun around.

Dian I see you got cracking in the garden again as you had dry weather and got a lot done, including the grass cutting before the rain arrived, but looks as though it was only a light shower.  See you reckon the front garden doesn't look as good as the back and I was just looking out at mine and see I need to be sweeping up all of the seed pods which have fallen all over the place once again off of that bloomin' tree Evil or Very Mad.

Rita, hope you got my email letting you know that your post was on here and the week is going well for you after your busy weekend in the garden.

Well away I must go - second cup of coffee first and then on with the boring work outside.

Walked past my old neighbours. (usualy walk past people, not intentional) she had shrunk to have the size, no wonder they stopped me.....she is still
blind in one eye, and her Addenbrookes appointment is cancelled again. they say it will not affect her sight. waiting for her to pass on no doubt.
cannot see this, if the retina detaches that is it...well it was when I worked at Boots etc.

I apolgise for tiny writing. Pauline, your garden is so colourful and such a variety of plants and flowers, so many pots too. I think gardening is  hard work  and it is only other gardeners who can look and admire and realise the vision, planning and non stop work which has achieved such beautiful results.
My alstromeria has been gorgeous, a large patch, 4ft by my gate, and it was seeding so I managed to cut it all down, last year it flowered again in October, but doubt it will this year, such strange weather.
You do have patience with feeding the birds, i gave up long time ago as squirrels and pigeons ruled the roost.
Jean, it will be good if you get some nice neighbours even if you do not see much of them,,  you would  have a quiet day in this Monday, such awful weathrr, did you have yr heating on?
Dian, I was pleased to see that you enjoyed your weekend away and westher was Ok. You manage to keep your  garden tidy too, there is always a job to do there.
I have not been out or seen anyone, but I  may venture onto an bus to town  if we get a fine day,    I received  at last my order for masks and  a see thro plastic face shield so I will be well protected.  Locsl shop delivers food on Thursdays.

Rita we have not actually had the heating on again so far.
Davids hip is playing him up but even when told to take our savings to get it done refuses. something will have to be done in the end
he is so stubborn. what use is money when you do not use it. I saved this money for us to go to Antarctic  which I cannot spell. too old now
been down Sainsburys this morning and forgot to look at the dripping.....Got a hair cut appointment for next wed.
Had an offer of £10 from tescos re the plastic in the coleslaw. so have told them where to put it......
Pauline I wish I had your energy, seem to be doing less and less and feeling worn out. good that I have to take Coco out to get exercise.
Barry rang yesterday and said he has managed to get a video of Jill and apparently she calls everybody Daddy now. has not seen her for months of course

Hello Everyone - Page 12 Empty Re: Hello Everyone

Thu Jul 16, 2020 1:56 pm
Hello Everyone - Page 12 L8lmks10 Hi Ladies.  Had to wait this morning while Windows was doing an update and got on with other jobs indoors.  Security Windows download all done now and have at last got through the emails and now the pleasant job of reading your posts on our site.

Yesterday it was rain on and off here and there, so really couldn't get into any outdoor job for too long, so came indoors and got through some more mending and brightening up of some of the garden ornaments and then set to and decided my list of jobs was a bit all over the place, so wrote out a tidier one (never does seem to get shorter  Question) and put the more urgent ones at the top, then got a new page set up in my cash book (where I keep info of what payments are next and what should be payed) - that comes in handy when the bank statements are ready and thankfully it does make sure I haven't missed out any entries as they thankfully tally.  After that I cooked the cake following my Mum's recipe and it turned out to be very tasty (yes I did have a couple of slices yesterday and probably will enjoy another slice this afternoon with a cuppa).  I really shouldn't be eating naughty things or will never take off those extra lbs that went on  Rolling Eyes.  Next thing got the washing up done and cleared up the kitchen and then worked into the dining room, so at least that is clean and tidy (well as tidy as it can be with the picnic table still there with the remainder of the photos on and now some containers next to it with items to glue and repaint, but at least I can walk through without things being too much in the way.  It seems to be brightening up outside (although definitely not sunny, but at least dry and it is calm) and I really should get out there again, but honestly not feeling that enthusiastic about it at the moment  Sad.  One bit of good news about my gardening efforts in Rugby - Rachel sent me a photo of one of the roses that I tried to save for her and it is now showing healthy new growth and she was happy about that and so am I.

Tomorrow I have the appointment at the opticians to get the glasses eased out, plus a lot of shopping to do, so don't think I will go into the lock up tomorrow - probably devote some more time to that clearance next week.  This morning I have also had an email from the dentists to say they are open again and I have to phone them to make another appointment as the one for this month was cancelled by them, so will phone them today.

Jean, well at least you got the beef dripping at Morrisons, although you forgot to check out Sainsburys when you went there yesterday, but at least you now know that there are at least 2 stores that stock it.  There are things like that Tescos don't stock now, so hard luck them, because if I have to go to Sainsburys to get it (and they also stock the onion relish that I like, which Tescos don't now keep) then Tescos lose out, because all of my other shoppping gets done in Sainsburys.  See you stocked up on the muffle ear plugs and had to laugh about Coco snoring too.  Hope you have another mask as your one broke while in the shopping centre, because we will all need them for the shops as from Friday 24th July and I know the Government had left this late, but it is a reminder to a lot of people that the virus is still out there, because some people are getting very lax about this.  See you didn't recognise your old neighbours as the lady had shrunk to half her size and another person whose op has been put off - really worrying when it comes to eye sight and hope that she gets attention soon. See you have done your best to try and get David to use savings to get his hip op, but he won't be persuaded and as you say, what use is money when you don't use it to get better health, but he is stubborn like most men when it comes to sensible suggestions with regard to their health  Rolling Eyes.  See you have managed to get the appointment for a hair cut and bet you are happy about that, but not happy with the £10 Tescos have offered - hope you keep pushing for more and insist on knowing how that got into the coleslaw, because remind them that Trading Standards would be interested too.  At least Barry has managed to get a video of Jill, so that is something as of course, he hasn't been able to visit.  Quite honestly, my energy does seem to be flagging at the moment, or perhaps the enthusiasm has disappeared about doing certain jobs and I suppose a lot of the things I am doing now should have been done before this, but the clubs and sales took up quite a lot of my time, so in a way it is good that this lock down has allowed me to catch up - but just a bit too much to catch up on.

Dian, you are right - jobs in the garden never seem to end and the trouble is that I have hit the boring bit at the moment, but will work through it in the end.  Maria and Gennie are both okay at the moment and Gennie is looking forward to seeing me again next week with that gooseberry crumble and keeping my fingers crossed that she gets some good news about a bungalow that hopefully might be soon found for her.   Maria is keeping busy with her garden and crochet at the moment.  Another wet day for you yesterday and just hope you get the hair appointment you chased for again yesterday - see that Jean has managed to get one.  Well at least you got another date for the dentist after they cancelled the one that was coming up soon and hope I don't have to wait too long to get one when I phone today.

Rita it is such a shame that the fonts come up so small and they do for all of us when we post, but at least having learned how to alter the fonts and colour, when we press the preview button, we can then read more easily what we have put on here and correct any mistakes before completing the post.  I do try and get onto yours and Jean's posts fairly quickly and make the printing larger, but that doesn't help you while you are posting.  Yes gardening is hard work, as you know, but very satisfactory when  we get good results eventually.  Good to read that your alstromeria is doing so well near your gate - I keep both of mine in large planters and have been so pleased with the display from both of them.  The yellow one has slowed down at the moment, but I have pulled out all of the finished stems (apparently the best way is to pull the whole stem out from the root to give room for the new stuff, so have followed that advice) and there were a lot of stems I had to remove from the yellow one (that job got done yesterday) - pink one is still blooming so well as you could see from the photo I put on here.  It is hard work keeping up with bird feeding during the Spring, but eased a bit at the moment, because a lot of them are now off to the fields that have been harvested, but of course the pigeons still arrive regularly and the odd squirrel now and then and can understand that because of the trees behind your property there must have been a lot of them.  That was good the mask and plastic shield arriving, so you will feel much safer if you do go into town and hope your food delivery arrives today.

Think I had better finish typing now and decide what I should be doing next, but lunch first.  Enjoy the afternoon and evening ladies.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 7utpbi10  Just popped in again to say I reckon I deserve a glass of whatever that is in the gif, because I haven't finished all of it, but have used the tree pruners today and the joy of having the right tools and not having to climb on the step ladder, because I have taken some of the taller branches down from my Eucalyptus (still more to do, but arms aching now) and got rid of a lot of the lower branches off of the council tree - those that were banging against my end fence and the last existing trellis that it hadn't yet managed to bring down.  I have piled up those cuttings off of that tree at the base and just let any council worker comment about them, because I would feel like taking the pruners to them  Twisted Evil  Those that I cut down were already covered with that nasty sticky black mould - yuk.  Anyway I am off to have a bath and shampoo my hair so I look a bit more human for going out tomorrow.

Phoned the dentist and they said they were seeing to as many children as they could first and asked if I would phone back early September when they hoped they could give me a date and time for an appointment.  Also tried to put my meter readings through to Eon, but their meter reading section had crashed and got apologies from them, so will try again tomorrow when I get back from shopping.  Hope everything has gone well for you today and you all enjoy your evening.

Hello Everyone - Page 12 Memvjj10  Good Afternoon Ladies.  Left here at 9.30 and was home by 11.45 - had to walk to next bus stop again as Anglian Water are still working at the bus stop nearest to me so that is closed and coming home I walked all the way back, so not bad the amount of time I was out and first of all got the glasses altered and they feel so much better.  Went to Savers, Pound shop and then Tescos and got most of what I needed. In Savers I got another perm to keep in the cupboard, plus getting low on the VO5 mousse I use for setting after shampooing, hayfever tabs, Elastoplast and the Glucosamine Sulphate tabs which are good for joints (last time they only had small containers in, but this time they had the size I normally buy), so spent more than usual in that store and on things that you don't buy perhaps that often, but all getting low at once. Decided to leave Lidls until next week because there are a few things I need there, but not urgent for this week and will then go to the lock up first and clear out more for Barnados and visit there at the same time, as they are just behind where Lidls is.  Couldn't resist, there was a pot of 3 lovely lilies and another one of tall Cosmos which were £3 each in Tescos, so bought those and looks like garden work again for me this afternoon as it is lovely and sunny out there, but garden does now need watering again.  Got some more tree lopping to do and was so happy finding out how easy those tree pruners were to use.

I started this about an hour and a half ago, but couple of phone calls received, so I am now later posting than I planned and can see it is going to be quite late when I eventually get in the garden.  Wish I could leave the watering today - but looks as though the rain might not arrive until late tomorrow or during Sunday and there is so much more I want to do (no - not what I want to do - more what I must do and get that sieving out of the way and some more planters emptied  Rolling Eyes )

Dian, my view and your comment about that tree are very different from the council's view - according to them it is a healthy tree  Twisted Evil, but as far as I am concerned I am going to get more of the lower branches off of it, which helps a bit and keeps them away from the fence and last trellis still standing!!  Rain for you yesterday, but see your daughter was going to take you out and the hairdresser phoned, so not long to wait until your perm on the 28th and just know you will be so looking forward to that and you will be at your younger daughter's for Sunday lunch, so plenty to look forward to.  Well done with going through the paperwork and agree with you - that certainly does take up a lot of our time.

Hope yesterday went well for you both Jean and Rita and today you are both enjoying the sunshine.

Today we went around the Cambridgeshire villages again. the scenery is pretty nice there, but have to go back to Stoke Doyle, where there is a manor house I am interested in, but of course we went past and could not stop
Came home and cleaned out the garage which wore me out. David usually does this, but I could leave it no longer.
It is quite hot here are the moment, just had a phone call from Canada where they tell me there are thunderstorms rain etc. but should be sunny next week.
Better be sunny tomorrow as I have to do the washing.
I do love all your plants Pauline and the work that you put into your garden. I need to do mine with a pickaxe at times....
best wishes to all
ps Tescos offered another £10. have not accepted any of it, says it will be 28 days until the test for the coleslaw is ready

Hello. Jean, that would be lovely going around all the Cambs. , its years since I had a car ride. Cleaning out the garage on a hot day would be very tiring for you.
Dian, , what a lovely busy day you have had, in all those shops and a cuppa in M&S.band then your daughter took you to a hotel for tea. There is a Morrisons shop in Bedford, (two bus journeys away).  I went there once and was impressed with the variety of food they had there. Yes you would get stocked up there. Did you set your plants into your garden?
Pauline, please be careful, sawing off tree branches, don't over balance. So you got your specs made to fit comfortably, I should go and see about mine. You can't resist buying even more plants and you find a place for them too. After all your garden work I hope your joints are not too sore.
I have not been out at all, don't really need anything and now am so used to being in all day just got no interest in going out.
