Hi Rita, before I post for today I am answering your post above. That post turned the page to 25, but if go back to 24 (just tap on the page number above) and you will see your post was on here after the one Jean put on for Saturday and then I followed and answered you all. After that there was a quick question from Jean yesterday and a post from Dian and then you posted above and that turned the page to 25.
Off I go now to post fully for today.

Thanks Pauline, but the post I did, was just after Jean's enquire about covering her plant for winter. I know I pressed Send.
And it should have come up before Dian's post.
And it should have come up before Dian's post.

Hi Ladies, well first of all a sad day for me yesterday. I went outside - first job to get rid of more of the cuttings on the bank at the top where I have cut back all of the Buddlieu and coming back down the side, there on the edge of the grass, adjoining the pavement, was my little hedgehog. Not squashed, curled up and all intact with a tiny patch of blood on its chest. So instead of being comfortably in the new house he is now buried in the garden. Here are some of the photos I took of the house and surrounding garden when it was finished and just hope there will be another hedgehog about that might use it:-
As you can see, planters looking good on that side and room for a couple more, when I do the right size ones for the front part.
Yesterday got on with more of the sieving and emptied a couple of good planters that I wanted for the foxgloves, and put a lot of them in and then got two more of the new plants into planters that were emptied and cleaned and started the cutback of the montbretia, pulled out two more tubs of the iris to sort them and started a good clearance of the bed going down the other side of the garden and the new skimmia and the existing one in their planters have been put there, because it is more shady and they like that. Pulled out the planters at the end of that bed in the corner by the end fence and have worked on them and got them in order - some of them needed feeding and topping up and cut back the montbretia there. A lot of cutting up which could use for the compost and got all of that in the bin and turned the contents over again and I have been using plenty of that at the bottom of the planters before the sieved fibre and added plant food is put in and all of the ones done so far, are getting on well. One more basket done yesterday and the last two begonias indoors. Now it is supposed to rain today, but hopefully will try and get the last basket done and the remaining geraniums indoors. At least with the rain it is still mild and no frost at the moment, but must do those fuchsias soon and get that shelving sorted for the winter with the fleece over it. I looked around this morning and can see that with a lot of those planters cleared, there is more space appearing, so must be gradually geting there.
Rita, hope that has solved that problem for you and your weekend went well. Just seen your other post that arrived before I could post this one and see my suggestions weren't any good, because it was a different post from the one I saw on Saturday and you said that you definitely pressed send. I cannot for the life of me work out what went wrong there, but do know that if 2 of us are posting at the same time, then it is possible for one post to disappear. At least when we are preparing a post and go to send it, we do get notified that someone else has just posted and we are asked if we want to modify our post and that has just happened to me, letting me know that you have posted and have just added this section to the answer I originally put on.
Jean that plant is a white Canterbury Bell and yes will be okay in the garden. Just cut off any old flower stems and if there are seeds on them, just scatter those pods around the base of the plant where you should have some good growth now. Did you take it out of its pot? It will be fine planted directly into the garden.
Dian, as you can see from above, my sad news about the hedgehog, so I suppose I had better put out the "To Let" sign . I hope that there are no new restrictions that stop you from getting your hair done at the hairdressers and also get that perm in before Christmas. Did you get on with the exercises yesterday? Definitely colder yesterday to work in because on Saturday I had to keep on taking off the gardening coat, but kept that on yesterday.
Going to get into another lot of clean gardening clothes now and off I go and hope the week starts well for all of you.

Hi Ladies. Apologies for not posting yesterday, but I had a large Windows update to download and by the time it had finished and then started to install, it got too late to post, but I had a good long day in the garden and got a lot done as the weather was good.
Today late getting on here. First checked out the housing for Gennie, but only one bungalow listed in an area that isn't suitable for her and then off to get the flu jab and then onto the centre to collect the prescription and do a small amount of shopping and then to the lock up. Managed to bring home the metal baskets and the stands they go on, plus some small jewellery gift boxes and fancy bags and quite a few hangers that nobody wanted (that included the charity shops), so they came back with me and went in my recycling and also having sorted that lot, that left three more cardboard boxes to breakdown and put in the cages in the corridor, ready to be baled and collected from the centre. Put the shopping away when I got home, did some more composting including shredding paperwork from indoors and then 15 minutes into the 2 hours I had hoped to get in the garden, it started raining, but still continued.
I did some more sieving and cleared 3 more planters and all of the new plants are in and I did buy another tray of pansies today from B & M and have put some in the large planters I have used for the Goji Berries, as they are small at the moment, but knew their root system would soon need room, but at the moment they looked a bit lost without anything else in the planters. Yesterday I emptied two smaller rectangular planters which both had variagated grasses in and got them in one longer planter and that got put on top of the shelving halfway down the garden in front of where the honeysuckle runs on the fence and also got that trimmed in places and hooked back up again. Hopefully tomorrow we have a sunny day forecast, so will get out there again.
A lot of the existing planters that needed tidying and feeding, also had loads of foxgloves and wallflowers sprouting in them from seeds that had dropped and I have dug them out and they are now in several planters on their own and evenutally they will fill up the end bed when I have fully dug that over and trimmed the honeysuckle that runs along that fence. There are also two climbing roses that have never done that well because of the lack of light (and they were inherited from the prevous owners of this house) so intend to cut them back, dig them up and put them in a couple of planters for the time being until I find a better place to put them and they do need more sunlight. So much work still to do and that includes the bed by the side of the house, but I am getting there and determined that all of the plants will be finished before the Winter. Possibly there are some jobs that I won't get done, like creating a structure out of the old trellising for the passion flower vine to grow on and have a really good sort out in that corner under the (b)looming council tree and deciding what to do with that section, but so long as all of the plants are sorted, then I will be happy. All of this work should certainly teach me a lesson not to leave things for the next year, like I had to do last Autumn and then of course, what I should have done in the Spring got put back again because of the fencing that had to be done, so this has been one long marathon.
Jean those scam calls are such a nuisance and such a waste of time and don't blame you for slamming the phone down. Wondering if you had an outing today as you haven't posted and hope you saw the information I gave you about that plant when I posted on Monday.
Rita I hope the week is going well for you and you haven't had any further hiccups on the site.
Dian, yes I was really sad about that little hedgehog and I think the larger one has already hibernated somewhere else, but hopefully I will see some more about in the Spring and the house will finally get used. I know they are now supposed to a threatened species and they need all the help we can give them. Yes I am hoping that it is going to be an eaier Spring next year for me in the garden after all the work I am getting through. That was sad news about one of the members of the Wednesday club dying from the virus. So far any news I have had about our club members has been okay, except for the fact of Margaret losing her daughter the other month and I must try and phone her soon and see how she is. We certainly do miss our clubs as they are all still closed and with things at the moment geting worse again, not much chance of being able to attend them for a long time. Wondering if when you got back from the shop yesterday, whether you felt like lifting anymore leaves and see today it was more leaves and apples?? . Even the sections of my garden that have been done are getting covered with them each day, so nothing looking that tidy at the moment. Good to read that your daughter managed to sort that out on your phone for you and since then you haven't received any further nuisance calls and hope it stays that way. You are right about the news being so depressing at the moment and nothing improving either and it leaves us all feeling down and tired of it all.
Well I must get myself off to bed before midnight as I want an early start in the garden again tomorrow (that is if the rain stays away). Sleep well all of you.

Hi Ladies. Thinking about how few of us there are now and used that gif of the birds this morning as a reminder of Pat and how she loved the bird gifs.
Nothing much to add this morning after that long post late last night, but when I was in the centre yesterday I did notice that Peacocks and Bon Marche had the closing down signs on their windows, so that will be another two shops lost there. Few things in their sales and 30% off signs on other items, but still a lot at full price.
Well it was dry at 7 this morning, but rained slightly since which means it will be messy work out there unless it dries up quickly, but must get on with it, despite left arm aching more than the right one, due to the flu jab and also got a slight sore throat this morning, but no other symptoms at the moment. Spoke to the nurse yesterday and asked her if she would be dealing with the covid vaccine, if and when it was developed and she said she would expect to be hopefully busy with that. Will phone Maria a bit later and see if she has got the phone call from the hospital doctor now he has the results of the last scan and the blood test she had taken yesterday and wondering what treatment she will be given next. When I checked again this morning on the NPH website, there are just 7 properties on there and as I mentioned last evening, one bungalow, but not in the area that would be any good for Gennie. Will keep checking through the week to see if there have been any further ones added to the site.
Hope you all have a good day free of problems.

Quick answer to you Jean - those two bungalows that have just been built near Maria, have apparently not been listed yet. I do know that whenever there is a new build these do have to be checked by the building inspectors to see whether there are any chemicals or pollution still in the air, so obviously waiting for this, but as soon as they appear we will be onto it. Ru the other lady did enquire about these at the housing office and she was told they weren't yet listed, so fingers crossed on that one. I thought when you added that bit about the scam call it seemed as though you had already posted that day, but it obviously didn't appear, anyway glad you got the info about the plant. Don't know if I have lost anymore weight after the first 4 lbs, but will try and eat sensibly and keep up the garden work and that should help. See you felt worn out yesterday after the hair cut and then the Tesco shop - felt the same myself when I got home from the centre and needed a sit down after putting the shopping away before I could even think about garden work. Weather wasn't too good at the start of today so see you have put off going out on a trip, but sun is out now and hope it stays that way.

Pauline you certainly have got so much in garden done will be a big help come the spring and hopefully have a new tenant for your house. Still you will be pleased you have got so much done. Really hope Gennie gets lucky and manages to get a bungalow. Yes we are all really missing our clubs but cant see any opening this year. Well do hope good news for Maria. It is so sad to see so many shops closing down in our shopping centres
Jean hope your feeling better today and hope David feeling better too
Rita hope your having a good day also
Turned out a pleasant but chilly day so just might go and trim a shrub at the front. Would love to do more but can only stand without support for a short time so takes me a lot longer to get anything done. Will go and close upstairs windows as rooms well aired by now. I have been watching the Indian Doctor and really enjoyed it

Hello I have nothing to report, usual Housework, washing etc. Today went yo Sainsbutys, door to door, all wearing masks of course.
I have no energy these days just sit and doze most of the time. I did go to town on Tuesday to take back to the Council a library books I have had on loan since February. They have a huge box at the library entrance in which to leave the books. Saw no one to speak to but noticed 7 men, all speaking foreign language, all enthusiastically shaking hands with one another, Grrrr!
So that's it, I am ok and hope you all are too.

Hello Ladies. I don't mind the leaves falling, so long as it stays dry today - still damp out there from yesteray when it rained on and off and I couldn't get a lot done except a bit more cutting back and cutting up for composting, so hope today I can achieve more.
Spoke to Stephen and Rachel last evening and she had a communication to say as she was a key worker in education, would she be prepared to receive a home testing kit for the virus each month which she can use and put through the results. Twice she has been notified through the tracking on her phone that she has been near someone who has the virus, but she is okay. Anyway she said she was quite happy to receive the testing kit each month and use it. The problem they have at the moment is trying to get flu jabs and of course, this is necessary for Ralph as he is diabetic and is now at work (getting on very well with his apprenticeship and enjoying it). Beth is back at Warwick University, but all of the students, as soon as the lectures have finished, must return back to their own accommodation and leave the building - no mixing allowed for them in communal areas of the university and at the moment she is able to manage the lectures, learning and her part time job at the garden centre. For me just a slight soreness in the upper arm still from the flu jab, but that is all.
Dian I saw part of The Indian Doctor a few years ago when it was first on t v, but make sure I record it now so I can watch all of it - some of the storylines I do remember, but must have missed quite a bit when it was first on and enjoying it now. With more shops closing, even in the shopping centres, it is going to be a bit miserable shopping this year, particularly when it comes to finding things for Christmas and with so many families with such a lack of jobs and income at the moment. Wilkos and B & M are loaded up with items for Halloween, but can't see much of that shifting this year. We will be keeping our eye on that housing site in the hope that those 2 bungalows near Maria will be listed soon, or Gennie would be quite happy to live on Standens Barn where my Mum used to live and where friend Anne lives now. Me too, cannot see any of our clubs opening this year and we do miss them and also the outings that Ken of Age UK used to arrange - they just charged us £6 for the use of their mini buses, when they weren't needed during the day and he used to sort out some good areas of history to visit within about an hour and a half journey and also some interesting gardens with shopping areas attached - perhaps just as well I can't get to them at the moment, because I daren't buy anything else for the garden . Hope you managed to get that shrub trimmed at the front as you had a pleasant, but chilly day. See you still cannot stand for long to do jobs like that without support. At least my garden work has involved a lot of sitting down what with all the sieving that I have been doing.
Jean I answered your post yesterday as soon as it appeared and you can see that we are keeping an eye out for those new bungalows and hope they will get listed soon.
Rita, I know, with regard to that group of men all shaking hands, same here when we had the community warden outside our local shop and she stopped a group of them going into the shop because they weren't wearing masks, but they refused to put them on, even though she offered to go into the shop and get some for them and there was nothing she could do and she had the Police CSO with her, but they don't have the power of arrest and the girls in the shop are powerless to do anything. Does make everyone so annoyed about the lack of responsibility and care that we see from some idiots. Just look at what went on in Liverpool the other evening after the pubs closed - totally disgusting. Beth said to her Mum that she was told that a lot of the students and young adults are going out earlier in the day to start drinking from early afternoon until closing at 10 in the evening and of course, by then, alcohol in and sense out. What I would like to know is how they can afford it. We know that a lot of the younger adults are getting this virus and recovering from it, but they are being totally ignorant and also wasting NHS resources when they have to be taken into hospital - I know how hard and where I would like to jab any needles into them . At least that nonsense isn't allowed at our large Tescos in the shopping centre - no arguements with their security, they wouldn't be allowed in. I see that yesterday you got some housework and washing done and to Sainsburys on their bus door to door, all with masks on, so reckon you got quite a bit packed in although you say you are lacking in energy. See you managed to drop off a library book you have had since February.
Must away now ladies and see what I can get done outside again. Hope you all have a pleasant day free of problems.
What I would like to know is how they can afford it. well here I am. unexpectantly went to Brill windmill in Buckinghamshire(Midsomer Murders) but that camera. although it had a new battery would not work. that
was very annoying as the sun shone and we had it to ourselves for a while.Coco saw her first cow and growled at it from the car. she will take on anything
now for some sad news. Barry(Jills husband)is in Northampton Hospital with suspected sepsis. Danny phoned me from Glasgow where he is lockdown
would not have made any difference because if he was here he could not go anyway, likewise all of us. he is oxygen so we are keeping everything crossed
for him. he has had it rough withJill and ailments and now this.
hope Gennie gets that bungalow eventually, what a lot of red tape
Rita I seem to have more to do than ever and it never gets down. we have lost the dogs toy as well as the DVDs, must be here somewhere
Dian have not seen the Indian doctor but I think it was good, keep meaning to tape it

Good Morning All. Yesterday I managed to get a long day in the garden and sieved contents of more planters and pots and then used three more planters for potting up more foxgloves and even when I thought I had found the very last one, I found another one lurking, so shoved that one in quickly before the light went.
Photo of a long line of foxgloves in planters and two of them with Sweet Williams in - all seeded where the seeds had dropped and dug out from other planters where they were springing up and already besides that lot I have at least three planters full of them already placed. I cut back those two rambling roses yesterday and temporarily will put them in planters (that is if the roots aren't too far down to dig up) and when that end bed is finished and dug over, I will put all of those foxgloves along there. Haven't quite decided where to place the 2 lots of Sweet Williams, but I still have some of the Wallflowers to dig out from planters where they have seeded and I have a few of them already planted along by the patio edge near the hedgehog house:-
Another section going along from the bed already done and that long tub of variagated grass I moved down to the second shelf (didn't look too safe on the top one). The two tubs of the goji berries are under that on the ground and didn't want them squashed if that lot came down. You can see how the fence needs staining again along that area and should aim to get all of the staining done, but not sure if I will have time before the Winter sets in:-
Did a lot more cutting back and nothing looking that cheerful at the moment with my muddy glove prints on the planters and the grass trodden down, but getting there. I do believe those planters that need clearing are cloning overnight, because it seems never ending at the moment . One bit of good news, about 10.30 last evening I switched on the patio light and looked out and there was the hedgehog walking along the patio, so shot out there quickly and put some food down. Well there must have been two of the smaller ones and perhaps that dead one I found outside, wasn't the one that had been in my garden, so hopefully I have a resident for the house .
Jean that sounded like an enjoyable trip out to that Windmill - had a look at that on the internet and see it dates from the 17th century and looks in such good condition and worth the trip there. What a nuisance the camera didn't work and you couldn't get any photos - perhaps the battery needed charging up. Must admit the charge on my one goes quickly now and have to keep charging it, so should get a new battery for it. Had to laugh about Coco growling at the cow - first one she had seen. That is such sad news about Barry and of course, no visitors for him because of the virus danger. We couldn't visit Gennie last time she was in the General and see two days ago there was another virus death in that hospital. I do hope he recovers from that, but does sound serious and poor man, he has had a lot to put up with for a long while now, with the worry and sadness about Jill's condition. Seems such a tiring way of looking for a bungalow for Gennie and such a long wait too, but fingers crossed that the two new ones will be listed in the coming weeks. See you are still missing some DVDs and the dog's toys and that series The Indian Doctor was the last one yesterday so that has finished for now.
Dian see you were late in yesterday and hope you enjoyed the day out and the evening meal with your daughter and granddaughter.
Rita I do hope the week has gone well for you.
Well ladies I must away - going to make a coffee first as it is 10.45 and breakfast was very early this morning. When I got up I sorted all of the emails and surveys (claimed another lot of money from one of the survey sites the other day and that is now in PayPal) and got onto here before the garden work starts, but need the coffee first. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

Good Morning All. That gif is a photo of one of the sedum in the garden and about the only patches of colour in the end bed at the moment. Yesterday I got creative. Decided with all of those pots of foxgloves, etc., I had better make some more room in the garden, so tackled the so called rockery (that I have never been happy with). Originally it was a pile of mainly sandstone lumps and some other bits of stone that had been piled against the old existing shed by the previous owner. Well as you know that shed went years ago and the other year I did try and lower it, but after yesterday I would say it is now much flatter and gently slopes towards the stone corner held back by a breeze block edge on which I have placed one of the long planters (that I did empty yesterday). Digging it was a nightmare because there wasn't one point where I could put the fork in without hitting more bits of stone and concrete that have all been dug out now. The creative bit was due to wondering what to do about a large black planter shaped like a tar/oil pot, so having watched Charlie on Garden Rescue with her ideas, that got shifted onto its side with some of the better rocks supporting it and will eventually have one of my garden gnomes climbing into it (the one that is suitable is indoors with a broken leg that needs gluing and he needs a coat of paint ), or there could be one of the blue grasses tumbling out of it (so it looks like water coming away from it) and will decide on that later.
That planter had only ever been used for nasturtiums so they draped down the sides and never could find any other suitable use for it and a couple of months ago when I started all of this sieving and emptying of planters, I shifted about a quarter of the filling out of it and then came across red ants and wasn't going to disturb them. When I started on it yesterday there was a load of fibre to sieve and the ants had gone, but they had made a lovely job and there were no lumps in that lot. Having emptied that and the long planter I now have five more bags of potting fibre sorted and ready for use again. The long planter is now holding back that new bed and as it is perched on the top of the breeze blocks I have weighted it down with some of the smaller lumps of stone and concrete I found while digging and will put some of the fibre in that today, with the compost and plant food and then have a look at what is left of existing plants to go in it. Probably the London Pride (saxifraga) will be suitable, because that is always increasing and can dig up plenty of that. Aiming to clear two more larger planters today and get them sorted so that I can dig up those rambling roses in the end bed. I did get the fork into the soil yesterday and the first one seems to be easing out quite well, so will see how that goes today and when those are cleared I can finish that bed and get all of those foxglove planters stood along that. While I have been working along the entire garden I have also been feeding, protecting and staking up a lot of the existing plants and getting the string around them to stop a lot of them doing their usual flopping and spreading over others and yesterday also got what antirhinum seedlings that I could find, into that long planter on the shelf where the ivy is, that you can see in the first photo.
Here are some photos of the work done yesterday:-
In that second photo above, what looks like a clump of dead wood is actually a candytuft that has survived from the previous owner and yesterday I dug it up and cut it right back, but hopefully it will survive because I have been pretty ruthless with trimming it every year as it gets so large and leans over everything.
Next lot of photos and first one showing the new skimmia and that is what the colour should be and the second one shows my existing one which had been getting too much sunlight and the leaves where turning yellow, but it is brightening up now and getting darker leaves now appearing, so saved that one I hope. Third photo shows one of the chrysanths with so many buds and there are three of them like that and being very mean in opening, but they are happy and can bloom very late Autumn/early Winter so a case of being patient and waiting to see the colour from those:-
Now for a bit of colour on work already done - pansies have taken off well in the baskets and that bit of patio is looking neat and clean and the bed behind it:-
Happy to say that last evening the hedgehog was happily crunching away on food by the house, so hopefully that might get used for the winter. Also had a chat with Rachel and said that although I would love to get up there to see them, I am absolutely determined that the garden must come first and all the planting finished and she understood that, but looking forward to being able to get to Rugby and with regard to Christmas she has already booked an afternoon tea for December 23rd and looking forward to that.
Dian, yes I do feel good about what I have achieved so far and hopefully it will cut down on a lot of the work that usually has to be done in the Spring and the fact that I have managed to redesign where that rockery once was gave me real satisfaction. Glad to read that you enjoyed the outing on Friday with your eldest daughter and then picked up your granddaughter after her walking the dog and all off to the garden centre and shopping and then back for your granddaughter to walk the dog again and after that you enjoyed a nice roast beef dinner at your daughter's house. The schools here still seemed to be open on Friday and were not supposed to be closing until Friday of the coming week, but think most of them here in Northants might just be finished now for 2 weeks instead of the usual one and see you said the garden centre was really busy because of the schools your way already being closed. Sorry to read it was a real down day for you yesterday, but at least you enjoyed the visit from your younger daughter when she popped in for a chat and hope you feel brighter today. Hearing the news doesn't help and here we are still medium risk 3, but looks as though stage 2 is looming for our county and at the moment you just can't make any definite plans.
Jean not bad weather at all for us yesterday and again had to remove the thicker gardening coat from time to time while I was out there. Got a picture of David with all of the Christmas wrapping paper around him and had to laugh about that one and seeing as it is the first time he has wrapped the presents I bet he will need your help . As you say, when you can get out on your trips, it is good to get away from the depressing news and it isn't getting any better at the moment.
Rita, do hope you have been well this week and managed to get out for a few walks during the drier weather and keep cheerful.
Must away now ladies and get some breakfast and I do fancy a couple of boiled eggs this morning (haven't had them for ages) and then get on with it out there. Dry again at the moment, but a bit grey and cloudy. Hope you all have a good day.

well the Xmas paper is still laying untouched on the dining room table still. Daniel was on hold for Norhampton hospital for an hour, when they told him(from Glasgow
to ring back at 3pm. so will have another update later. He has been told he has Best Disease in his eyes, it is at the back of the eye, and is there when you are
born, he could go blind if it progresses
then had my first delivery from Sainsburys with two items missing. tried to phone them. they are busy etc. got through the girl said she would contact the driver.
would I hold on, so I did, she came back, said something I could not understand and the line went dead. very impressed. their lettuce know site tries to stop you
from complaining....

the last few days have been a bit funny./ On Friday night on going to bed the new radio turned itself on. then yesterday Daniel finally got through to the hospital
to be told he was not on the list for information, his sister had not added him......so he texted her to do it. do not know anymore yet, except that Barry
was sitting up and having a cup of tea, so that is good
then foreign looking men came to the door and said that next door has his door open, they were trying to deliver something but he was not there.
so went to see if his car was there, rang the bell, door now closed, no answer.David hobbled round and roused him, thought if the door was open
he would get people going in, and maybe he was laying on the floor, it turned out that he was drunk, (he usually gets drunk weekends quietly)
So now off to Sainsburys about that delivery.

was sitting up and having a cup of tea, so that is good
then foreign looking men came to the door and said that next door has his door open, they were trying to deliver something but he was not there.
so went to see if his car was there, rang the bell, door now closed, no answer.David hobbled round and roused him, thought if the door was open
he would get people going in, and maybe he was laying on the floor, it turned out that he was drunk, (he usually gets drunk weekends quietly)
So now off to Sainsburys about that delivery.
